Love this book...beautiful images and stories for each piece...makes my hand itch to start my own story rug

In this book, Paulette Hackman explores hooked rugs that tell a story. The book is worth its purchase price for the rug photos alone—a beautiful and varied collection of contemporary story rugs and also works of the late Dorothy Sauber. Sauber’s rugs are rendered in an absolutely delightful way (I think “Irrigation†is my favorite). Hackman goes beyond offering examples to spelling out methods for her readers on how to imagine and compose a story rug of their own.Hackman’s own tapestry adaptation, Daughters of the Northern Lights, rivals everything in the book. Another special treat is the work of Trish Johnson, whose minute details boggle the mind of an average hooker like me. If you love stories, hooked rugs, or both, this book will delight you.
I am so pleased to have read this book! I am not a rug hooker but a mat painter and so far I have simply painted "pretty things" that were simple enough to do easily.This book is well organized and helpful for anyone wanting to go in this direction. It has inspired me to write a list of many of my life experiences, wanting to paint them and perhaps offer them to family members! Who knows what I might do!And even for an art admirer, the rugs are simple beautiful to look at.The author has done a wonderful job!
