Even if one disregards the utter ridiculousness of what the Alien canon has turned into, this story was not one that was driven by smart characters, but rather one that was driven by dumb decisions made in the face of overwhelming odds for the sake of achieving maximum dramatic effect. The poor victims are repeatedly hamstrung on yet another ill thought out effort to acquire an Alien specimen by obsolete technology, a complete lack of planning, perfidious hidden agendas, and poor tactical decision making skills. The situation predictably deteriorates into a catastrophe largely as a result of those shortcomings rather than the actions of the aliens. There are so many borrowed elements from other Alien stories that many of the plot twists and turns in the story simply aren’t. On top of that, whoever wrote this tripe actually thought that borrowing a major plot element from Jaws 4: The Revenge was good idea. It’s not nor will it ever be.The voice acting and foley work are largely competent although the characterizations are largely recycled stereotypes. There are some notably poor acting choices in some spots which are mildly amusing indicating lapses in direction.I am not saying that I didn’t enjoy it, I did. But, it is not something that deserves one’s rapt attention or intellectual consideration, rather it provides a nice background to wrap fish, clean litter boxes, or any of a dazzling array of mindless tasks.
Loved these Alien Audible Original Drama's. I just discovered them by accident last year (2018), and have blazed through all 3 in the series. They are just awesome and I love the actors that play all the different roles. Production is top quality and I do enjoy the stories that build up an expanded narrative across the Alien and Aliens motion pictures. There's a lot of potential here to create a much larger Alien narrative, perhaps dipping into the earlier movies too -- so I hope 20th Century Fox and Audible continue to make these.
Great Audio drama. I thought that reading the book was good but man the audio drama was spot on perfect and really sucked you in. A great installation and man I wished the alien movies were as good as these. Acting was perfect and I loved every bit of it
I liked the sound and production. Hard for me to fully get on board with the mind melding with the alien concept, though.

I really enjoyed this last book the best. The other 2 are 'Out of the Shadows' and 'River of Pain'. I believe the series is based on novels of the same name but I read that the stories of the audio productions may have been revised, edited, or changed to help with theatrics better. All 3 books are directed by Dirk Maggs who is in charge of the sound effects as well which is the best part of the series after the professional actors speaking each characters' parts.Overall: 5 starsPerformance: 5 starsStory: 4 stars***SPOILERS***Pros:-A character being an empath who shares a psychic link with the aliens is an innovation addition to the franchise.-The writers figured out how to continue to storyline of Ripley without her.-The evil corporation theme is continued but in more devious ways.-I liked the parts that addressed the aftermath events of the previous Audio Dramas.-The topography of the world in question has some interesting geologic oddities described.-Finally a full blown operation is organized to acquire a Xenomorph!-The dynamics between the team members are very entertaining all throughout the drama.-There is an unlucky main character who you feel sympathy towards through the entire drama.-The interactions between Adams and Decker was a great addition to the story.-I wondered when the writers would start calling the Xenomorphs 'bugs', and they started.-The ending is incredible on many levels.Cons:-I think the writers continue to overplay many themes in this product, which includes the evil corporation theme.-It got annoying pretty quick how the mercenaries kept mentioning how much they would get paid if they brought in a live sample.-Very bad writing when the main elevator is used by a science team to make scheduled maintenance somewhere in the mines and then it turns out the elevator breaks down and needs several hours to be repaired, all while there are mercenary teams on other levels of the mines who will die because the elevator is inoperable.-Much like in the movie 'Aliens: Covenant', all the high-tech equipment described in detail in the beginning of the operation becomes useless and obsolete as the teams descend into the mines.-This foamer weapon, despite sounding promising in its ability to capture an alien, is almost never mentioned throughout the drama, almost as if the writers forgot about it.-Decker always seems to need to be prompted to reveal vital information that saves the lives of both himself and his team. It was always his Sgt. asking "what next?' vs. Decker being forthcoming with the info.-Another instance of extremely bad writing occurs when the head scientist disables the elevator because someone among the crowd of people waiting might be infected. In the next scene, he reveals that he is the one infected and promptly kills himself.All in all, the soundtrack and sound effects are all put together extremely well, the voice talent is top notch, and there are so many good things about the Audio Drama that make it worthwhile to listen to again.
The script, voice acting, and sound effects were great, in my opinion. Having finished up the pod cast, "We're Alive," it was great to continue listening to quality work. Already listening to this a second time, and I've listened to the prior Alien audible originals multiple times. Huge fan, and sincerely hope there is a sequel to this work.
It seemed like a good follow up to Out of the Shadows. Voice Actors and Special Effects are on par with previous Audio Dramas. It does seem they left room for another sequel. At 5 hours and 7 minutes, it is a good length. Some of the longer Aliens Audiobooks tend to drag along at 11-12 hours.
