Oh, man. This can't be the end--please! I am a retired cookie-baking, obsessive-reader-now-that-I-have-time, grandma who discovered the monster hunting genre with the first MHI book about a year ago, and what fun it has been. These books grab you from page 1, and at least for me, I simply can't put it down--then I want more. Please! More! The time between books is painful! The writing is beautifully done, the narrative almost lyrical. The plots are original and exceedingly well thought out. The characters stay true to form, and their interactions are consistent throughout the series. The fight scenes and weapons descriptions are detailed but not overdone. I am not a military or space opera fan (though I have tried and occasionally find something I really like), so I cannot speak to the rest of the writer(s)' work, but I do love these monster hunter books. The genre leaves room for soooo many more stories. These are literally the only books I buy without a thought if I cannot get them free from KUnltd or the library (I am on a really tight budget). More, please! Please?
This is the third and probably unfortunately the last book in the Monster Hunter Memoirs series. It is by far the best edited story of the bunch.Throughout the three books it has been foretold that Chad would die in battle. His death was truly heroic. The book is tightly written and has an excellent story flow. One of the better aspects of the book was the two afterwards, one by Milo and the other by Earl. Both of them capture both the positive qualities of Chad and his glaring faults.Although all of the main characters in the Monster Hunter books classify as super heroes (some with actual powers), Chad is the character across the entire series that has very strong weaknesses in his character. Those weaknesses make Chad what he is - both for good and for annoying. If you enjoyed any book in the Monster Hunter Series, this book will really hit the sweet spot.
I've loved this series since I first discovered it. By "series" I am referring to the entire collection of Monster Hunter related books, not just Memoirs. While "Saints" concludes this trilogy, there are still many tales to be told from the fantastic world Larry Correia has created for us. Fun stuff that manages to be thought provoking at the same time. Here's hoping more MHI tales are out there on the horizon!Caveat: While this book could be read as a stand alone, it will make more sense and be more enjoyable if you are familiar with the background and the characters of Monster Hunter International. So if you haven't already read these books you might want to check them out.
Really, I'm gonna be the first 3 star review? Well, it is what is I guess. I really enjoyed the first two Iron Hand memoirs and can recommend them without reservation. Frankly thought they were better than the last MHI book by Larry which seemed like all setup to me, but this one was just not the finish I was hoping for. To much research in libraries, too much traveling around, the part dealing with his brother was underwhelming at best. Ex machina resolution for fight with big bad in New Orleans was disappointingly lazy IMHO. Really didn't think the epilogue end was epic enough for a character I had really grown to like.
First, go read the first two books. You won't regret it, I promise. As to this final installment, it's the culmination of all the promises made. Mr. Ringo deftly takes all the loose ends--even the ones you didn't know were missing--and ties them into beautiful, gory, wonderful, heartbreaking, funny--and above all entertaining--bow.It's the best book I've read in a long time.
A great finale to this awesome offshoot of the main MHI universe. We have watched Chad Gardenier survive a bombing and go on to be a formidable fighting force. This volume finds him still in New Orleans as the last surviving member of Hoodoo Squad with new MCB agents running the show. Things are very different than they were, except for all the trouble that the city seems to keep encountering. We finally find out why the Big Easy is such a mecca for otherworldly monsters, especially zombies - a larval Old One is buried underneath it and waking up. Chad has to scramble to get MHI and all the allies that he's made over this series together in order to stop this monster from growing into adulthood and ending the world.Once again, we'll get to see a lot of familiar characters: Earl Harbinger, Boss Shackleford, Sam Haven, Milo Anderson, and several other prominent figures from the main MHI line.
First off, let me say that I have LOVED every one of the Monster Hunter books from the moment I met Z to now. Normally, these books rock so hard that I give them an automatic 5 stars and, in many ways, this one did not disappoint. Many and varied monsters, creative ways to kill them, firepower that you might have to look up and a main character who is cocky for all the right reasons. My one and only issue with the book was the final battle which, I felt, succumbed to an issue that you see in many suspense and thriller books. I call it: "a whole lot of shots rang out and everyone fell down dead". MHI books are supposed to have epic ending battles but the intervention of certain beings in this one wrapped things up too quickly. Other than that minor flaw, I loved this book and especially enjoyed the back story in the epilogue.
the Writing was superb! I received and devoured the book in one afternoon. From the beginning of the trilogy I hoped it ended with an explanation of the Christmas Party. Thank you! So many things I would like to say but they would all be spoilers. The fisherman chose wellâ¤ï¸
