This is great for someone who is new to special education (teacher, parent, etc). But since I have been a special education teacher for over 20 years, it was just a refresher. It explained the IEP process, what to expect at meetings, who was responsible for what in the student's education and how to solve basic issues, just to name a few items. It is easy reading so that makes it more interesting.
This book is a must have for any parent with a child(ren) with an IEP. Even though my sister is a spec ed teacher/evaluator with +42 yrs exp specializing in Autism, Downs & ADHD, she isn't always available & lives out of state. This book has helped me through many IEP meetings at school as we have 2 spec needs kids w/IEP's. Very helpful, especially when school tries to get around the legalities of IEP's. I guarantee when you walk into an IEP mtg w/this book in hand, you will be well informed!!!
i don't know where we would have been without this book. it was so useful for the IEP meeting. though the team we worked with was very detailed, this helped us to know what was happening and why, how to ask the right questions and make intelligent choices.
answers all the important questions for iep that parents may have , easy to read and get the reference from, wished I found this sooner and didn't waste all that time trying to find answers online that turned out to be not really accurate. recommend this book
All the laws and rights your school hides from parents. This empowered me to be more assertive and questioning at our meeting with the school
I have a Parent Advocacy Support Group and worked as a Special Education advocate for a time. This book is priceless. I wish I had had a copy of this book to give the families I worked with. I would recommend this book to any family of a child utilizing special education services. It answers, clearly and in easy to understand language, most of the most frequently asked questions parents have. It's well worth the cost. My copy is highlighted throughout and I'm making it available to my support group to borrow.
Everyone starting out in SpEd needs to read this book because it explains the process more fully than what we get during PDs.
Well written, point by point on what to do on IEPs, different situations, BIPs etc.... Really help me in my kid's last ARD.
