I bought this first version of this book back in February for my 2nd Customer Deployment of Sharepoint. There are several things you may already know about Sharepoint Designer, but I found this book best used by intermediaries; as Reference Material.For Beginners I also recommend to have and take the time to use the book because there will be things that will make more sense when you are presented with Business Case situations.I put the book down for a month and now have started a 3rd customer deployment for a Bio-Tech company that wants to control workflows. Now I am re-referencing the book for additional triggers.Down the road I can see using Data-Sources to create reports connected to Oracle DBs, but there is not a need right now or security access.Hence the reference material.If you are the Chief Designer-Dev of a Sharepoint Implementation this book is a must have for the meager cost.
I am a beginner. I have done Sharepoint uploads on a clerical level. I have the software but had no idea that I needed to have my own server. I purchased this book for at-home instruction which is why I purchased a step-by-step book. I installed the practice files and they would not load. I called the phone number on the website. It took them over 30 minutes to figure out that I had to have a server in addition to the software and practice files. This is not a book to learn simple software and it should be labeled as an Advanced Inside Out book. I have lost a lot of money on this.

I never had a bad book of Microsoft Press. This book was very well written for SharePoint Designer 2007 users.
I have used this book many times to get me through share point issues. Very good book to use for many issues you encounter.
There are different levels of publications. Many publishers print beginner-, intermediate-, and advanced-level books. The Step-by-Step series is for beginners and should be rated accordingly.An ignorant intermediate-level reader picks up a Step-by-Step publication and rates it four stars because it was good, but beginner. Then an ignorant advanced-level reader picks up the same Step-by-Step book and rates it three stars because it was good, but too beginner. Pick on your own size and rate according to the target audience. What the hell?OK, now a word about the content - this is a good introductory book, but requires a focused learner who has access to SharePoint Designer software and a SharePoint site. Good book, but this is not a baby topic and so a hands-on reader would gain more from it than a passive reader.
